Value-Added Food Processing

Value-Added Food Processing

With a strong agricultural base and growing agri-entrepreneur community, Twin Rivers is well positioned for specialty food production, small-scale manufacturing, greenhouse operations, and sustainable bioproducts. Close access to Saskatoon and Prince Albert strengthens supply chains and commercialization pathways.

Our family has farmed in the RM of Rosthern for three generations, and this community has always been a place where people support one another and encourage new ideas. Starting Maker’s Malt was a big step for us—moving beyond growing barley to creating a craft malting operation right here in Rosthern. The support we’ve received locally has made it possible to pursue this vision while raising our family in the same place we grew up. Being able to grow, malt, and deliver our product from field to customer allows us to showcase the quality of Saskatchewan barley and the innovation happening in rural communities. Maker’s Malt was built on the idea that farmers can add value to what they grow, and the Twin Rivers region is the kind of place where entrepreneurial ideas like this can take root and grow.

Construction & Trades

Population growth and new infrastructure projects are driving steady demand for skilled trades, housing development, and commercial construction—creating a stable market for builders and contractors.

Zak's Building Group is a second-generation family business with our head office located in Hague, Saskatchewan.  The Zacharias family has called this area home since our great grandfather settled in Blumenthal in the early 1900's.  Our roots extend deep in the Twin Rivers District and its a place we are proud to call home.  Today our family business employes nearly 200 people in our construction and retail divisions.  Every day we work with sub-contractors and trades in the district, all of whom are professionals at what they do.  The success our family and business has found is largely due to the great communities we live and work in.  Our slogan states: "We work hard to take care of our family and yours, by developing relationships and building our communities."  That is something we try to live to every single day.
