Partnership has always been at the heart of the Twin Rivers region.
Twin Rivers was established in February 2008 when nine neighbouring rural and urban municipalities recognized that many opportunities and challenges were shared across municipal boundaries.
Guided by a commitment to regional cooperation, local leaders came together to strengthen relationships, build capacity, and create opportunities that would benefit residents and communities throughout the region.
The name Twin Rivers reflects the North and South Saskatchewan Rivers that naturally define and connect the area.
Over the years, Twin Rivers has grown from a collaborative forum into a strong regional partnership focused on finding practical solutions, sharing resources, and pursuing initiatives that deliver greater value through cooperation. By working together, member municipalities have advanced projects supporting regional planning, emergency management, community safety, environmental initiatives, healthcare services, economic development, and municipal capacity building.
A key catalyst for the formation of Twin Rivers was the desire to coordinate land-use planning and development on a regional scale. This vision led to the creation of the Twin Rivers District Planning Commission, which promotes a coordinated approach to growth, infrastructure, and development across municipal boundaries. By fostering regional unity and collaboration, Twin Rivers helps create a stronger, more competitive region that is better positioned to attract investment, support business growth, and enhance quality of life for current and future residents.
