Regional Projects
Twin Rivers District has a positive history of working together on many projects to further the district and support the community members and businesses.
Emergency Management and Safety Initiatives
Coordinating emergency preparedness throughout Twin Rivers District is vital, as no single municipality can manage a major emergency alone. Municipalities form an Emergency Management Organization to collaborate and support one another, ensuring a unified response. This collective approach improves resilience for all communities. Partnering municipalities have agreed to provide emergency services, equipment, and facilities through mutual assistance during disasters.
Community Safety Officer Program
Municipalities can choose to strengthen their community safety services by hiring Community Safety Officers (CSOs). CSOs handle important but low-risk safety tasks, giving communities an extra uniformed presence. The Twin Rivers CSOs are responsible for enforcing municipal bylaws and provincial legislation, serving as the main Bylaw Enforcement Officers to help keep municipalities safe for residents. Additionally, CSOs take a proactive approach by educating the public, working with local stakeholders, and building relationships with residents to encourage bylaw compliance.
Hazardous Waste Day
The municipalities in the Twin Rivers District hold an annual Household Hazardous Waste Day, rotating locations to safely collect and dispose of items like paints, batteries, cleaners, and pesticides. Proper HHW disposal prevents pollution, protects health, and avoids harm to sanitation workers, requiring specialized handling for environmental safety.
Fire School
The partnered Fire Departments within the District have created a ‘Fire School’ where shared education/recertification/certification events are done together. These initiatives create great teamwork, decreased costs and increased opportunities for our volunteer fire departments.
Health Care
Medical Professionals Residence
Twin Rivers District acknowledged a struggle to attract physician residents, locums, and on call physicians due to lack of a residence. As such the partnering municipalities supported the creation of a comfortable and restful residence to be used to support our health care workers.
New Hospital Project
Due to the aging infrastructure of the current hospital in Rosthern and a growing demand for services in the Twin Rivers District, local municipalities have partnered to support ongoing funding for the Sask Valley Hospital Foundation’s construction of a new facility. By allocating funds and advocating persistently to the provincial government, the District is moving steadily toward providing this essential new hospital.
Procurement
The Public Works foremen and managers from the Twin Rivers Municipalities meet every quarter. During these meetings, they identified a cost-saving opportunity for the partner municipalities. With a Shared Purchasing MOU in place, there is a clear framework and process for jointly buying equipment and supplies, which helps the municipalities save money efficiently.
